Real bad boys can grow up to be real good men.

Hit hard by the death of her parents, Paige Ryan needs to figure out what to do with her life. She moves to Whispering Springs, Texas, to be near her step-brother. But just as she starts to get her life on track, the last man she ever wanted to see again sends it right back off the rails.

Cash Montgomery was on the cusp of having it all. Three bull riding titles, fame, fortune and respect from his family. Until a bad bull leaves him injured, angry and searching for comfort at the bottom of a bottle. With nowhere to go, he moves into his sister-in-law’s old ranch house in Whispering Springs—which he’s surprised to find already occupied.

As Cash rebuilds the dilapidated home and Paige starts out on her medical career, their old friendship begins to reemerge and sparks are ignited. Paige knows that Cash is nothing but a heartache waiting to happen. But maybe this bad boy has grown up to be a real good man?

Warning: Watch out for falling lumber, falling in holes, and falling for the wrong guy…again. You can leave your hard hat on.

A broken cowboy, a nurse, and a run-down house equals a second chance at love.

Money, fame and titles put the world, along with any woman he wanted, at Cash's feet. One bull ride took it all away. Instead of traveling the PBR Circuit, he's home in Whispering Springs nursing the remains of his shattered life with alcohol, trying to find a reason to get back on his feet again. Motivation arrives in the form of the one woman he dared to care for, a woman who was too young for him at the time, a woman he treated horribly after she'd given herself and her heart to him.

Paige is leaving her step-brother's bar to work at Whispering Springs Medical Clinic. Aside from moving out of her uncle's home and into a friend's old homestead and dealing with the residual effects of her parents' tragic deaths, life's good. Until she comes home from working at the bar and discovers her friend's old homestead is already occupied by the one man she didn't think she'd see again. Loving Cash then left her with a broken heart. Sharing a roof with the man will either make her question her sanity or make her fall in love with him all over again.

Cash and Paige's relationship is several years old. It started and ended in one night. Passion turned to indifference. Longing turned to hurt. To see the past through their memories was as bittersweet as living in the present with them. No matter what either wanted to feel toward each other, the fire they shared that fateful night still burned hot and bright between them. It was just a matter of what would they do about it: ignore it or act on it.

I wanted them to act on it. I wanted them to reconcile their past. I wanted them to explore the feelings they had for each other. *sigh* I didn't want them having a fling though. Ms. D'Alba, you wouldn't believe the string of curse words I let lose when Paige told Cash her proposition. It felt like they were shortchanging themselves with a fling, like an actual relationship wasn't worth trying to have. It took a few deep breaths for me to calm down enough and re-read that part of the story. It also took a while for me to accept that it was as good a place to start as any because, hey, some of the best relationships in fiction happen because the couple knows how to set fire to the sheets.

There were so many things to like about this story, but what stood out the most was Cash's progress from broken to whole. It was like the house they were staying in that he was fixing. Little by little, he repaired what was worn, rotting, peeling, and chipping. Little by little, the despair and agony of losing what had been his life fell to the ground until he stood on his own two feet ready to face the life that was his to live.

A second chance at love doesn't happen for everyone. Cash and Paige not only got that chance, but they got to make their love last longer than an eight-second bull ride. They got to make it last a lifetime.
