Long days, precious nights…
Mima Etu lives a quiet life with her sled dogs in the stunning Canadian Rockies. But that all changes when she stumbles upon a plane crash while out on a supply run. She’s shocked to discover the pilot is still alive—though barely. With the sun setting and the temperatures quickly dropping, Mima knows he’d never survive the trip to the nearest hospital. So she takes the stranger back to her cabin. As he heals, his vague answers to Mima’s questions about the flight tell her he has secrets. But more disturbing is the consuming, immediate attraction she senses between them.
For me, this story wasn't so much about survival as it was connection. Mima and Gabriel had survived alone for years, doing what was necessary to live another day. Even with her best friend, Mima was still very isolated, and I don't just mean living in the middle of nowhere. And Gabriel... Well, transporting drugs didn't really leave him room to make lots of friends, you know? One slip of his guard and it'd be a bullet to the back of his head.
The physical attraction was undeniable. How long had it been since either had found comfort in the arms of another person even if just for a night? It seemed to be the natural reaction in their situation. But beyond that... Their connection was more about the similarities they shared than great sex. *shrugs* Might just be me.
While this was an enjoyable read, Mima and Gabriel just needed more time for the kinship they felt to grow into friendship and then into love.
Ms. Grace is a new author for me; I haven't read anything by her alter ego, BL Bonita, either. Her writing style is smooth and easy to follow--no backtracking or re-reading for this reader--and her characters have incredible depth. Quick and short, this was a nice intro to her new series that, I hope, will get better with each story that get told.
Shady Grace makes Northern Ontario her home, where the bush is so thick you can’t see two feet past the tree line. Perhaps the mystery of the woods was what initially sparked her need to write. She adores strong alpha males who fall for fiery, independent women, in settings with humorous dialogue and action-filled plots. Shady believes love and sex should be exciting and unforgettable. Being able to write about it is better than cheesecake.
