Guest Post: Inspiration for "That Moment" with Five Roane Publishing Authors / @roanepublishing

Actually, it's a whole bunch of guests! *grins* Today I have the authors, whose stories make up Roane Publishing's Summer's Sweet Embrace anthology, here to answer one question: What inspired that magical moment between your characters, the one where the attraction was undeniable or the realization that they felt more than lust for each other?

Ladies?

Michelle Ziegler: Can I say a feeling? I love that magical “awe, he’s ganna kiss her” moment. So when I see the opportunity I don’t let them botch it. Honestly though, the characters were the inspiration. They wrote the story, as cliché as that is. I suppose a song helped set the mood. I write every scene to music, it helps the words flow like a movie. Now that my inspiration is as clear as mud…

Laurie Treacy: I tried capturing special moments I love from both my favorite books and movies. For Carly and Chase, their ‘magic moment’ is not one singular time, it’s spread out over the night he returns. They’ve grown up together, then separated, so with the break comes this distance, this lack of trust. Carly is trying to be levelheaded, afraid he’ll leave again, while Chase just wants to touch her, hold her after missing her. That’s why I wrote their story from both perspectives.

Christa MacDonald: A summer night on the beach with my crush.  The stars were out and we were the only two people on the sand.  We were talking about everything and nothing when he leaned in and kissed me.  Swoon.

Kim Strattford: Sometimes you realize people treat you a certain way for reasons that are totally different than what you thought—that hostility can be spurred by other things than just dislike.  That’s what drove this story.

Jaylee Austin: In Love’s Nectar, Seth has been busy painting a secret portrait of Isabel’s grandmother who just past away. It’s a picture of Isabel and her Grams in her tea garden. The colors are vibrant and so real to life. Isabel is touched to the depths of her core at such a heart-warming gift.

Niki Mitchell: Harley arrives at Skye’s surf shop ready to take her out to dinner. He finds her suffering a migraine and takes over, closing up her shop, and staying by her side while she sleeps off the headache.

Melissa J. Crispin: I was watching Sweet Home Alabama one day. I had already seen it a few times, and it’s one of those movies that I find myself pulled into whenever it’s on TV. The opening scene shows Melanie and Jake running on a beach as kids. Lightning flashes all around them and strikes the beach, forming glass. An image of a woman crying on the beach popped in my mind, a raging storm going on around her. I pictured a man showing up to comfort her next, and professing his love for her. And so, my story was born.

Sheryl Winters: Margaret and Garett's magical moment wasn't something that happened immediately. Their magic moment came from smiles in a hallway, a kind word on a bad day, or a phone call when all was thought lost. It was sharing secrets, consolations over failed romances and a chemistry that refused to die.

Thank you, ladies. It's awesome to know the inspiration behind a story. I don't know about my readers, but I know I wonder about it often when I'm reading an incredible story.
