I’ve spent the last several years building my company, having zero time for a social life. I preferred it that way. After the mess my ex-wife left me with, I have no interest in anything remotely close to a relationship.

Until I meet my daughter’s new next-door neighbor.

Harley is kind, beautiful, and she’s also an erotic romance writer. To any man, she’s the perfect package. To a gun-shy man like me, she’s a one-way road to disaster.

Unfortunately for me, my daughter’s newfound friendship with Harley means I get to see more of her.

And the more I see her, the more I want her.

But my instincts are telling me there’s a danger lurking around her, following her, waiting for the right moment to strike. And the closer I get, the more I realize there’s only one way I’ll allow any threat to get near her…

and that’s over my dead body.

Jack has spent years building a business and something of a life around it. He has a daughter, a son-in-law, and grandkids. But he doesn't share all of this life with someone of his own. Why would he? The bittersweet taste on his tongue has lingered heavily and too long after his ex left him, and it's made him wary of maybe, just maybe, finding happiness of his own.

He did not wear that wariness well and it nearly cost him more than his assets were worth.

Harley is years younger than him, a friend of his daughter's, and deserving of someone better than he. So he thinks. But his heart knows what it wants even if his brain can't wrap itself around this soul-deep need to submerse himself in Harley, make a life with her, and love her like he never has before.

It isn't until Harley's in danger that Jack realizes it's time to man-up and lay it all on the table to make sure she's safe and in his arms from now until they breathe their last.

The battle for dominance and understanding between the heart and mind are commonplace in May/December romances, and this isn't the first time I've addressed this aspect in a review. However, it's important that it is. While age really is just a number and love really does conquer all, arriving at that realization is where all the emotion is for me. My heart ached for Harley and her tragic past, and I longed for her to find love and a family of her own. But, I'll be honest, I wasn't sure if Jack was it for her. His insecurity and uncertainty left me gaping, wondering, "Are you serious right now?!" Watching him eventually come to understand that what he shared with Harley was more than okay (it was perfect) had me sighing with relief and shaking my head. For a smart man, it sure took him a while to see what was right in front of him.

But the point is he saw it. He took it. He owned it. He made it his.

I liked this story. It's been some time since a May/December frustrated me as much as this one did, but all that frustration was worth feeling when Jack and Harley finally got the happiness and unconditional love they deserved.

A Midwesterner and self-proclaimed nerd, Evan has been an avid reader most of her life, but five years ago got bit by the writing bug, and it quickly became her addiction, passion and therapy. When the voices in her head give it a rest, she can always be found with her e-reader in her hand. Some of her favorites include, Shayla Black, Jaci Burton, Madeline Sheehan and Jamie Mcguire. Evan finds a lot of her inspiration in music, so if you see her wearing her headphones you know she means business and is in the zone.

During the day Evan works for a large homecare agency and at night she’s superwoman. She’s a wife to Jim and a mom to Ethan and Evan, a cook, a tutor, a friend and a writer. How does she do it? She’ll never tell.
