What if your family sold you to a Sultan's Harem?

Drugged and kidnapped, Shera finds herself on a ship to Morocco to serve the Sultan. Abandoned and alone, Shera must find a way to escape and confront the people who betrayed her. She gets help from an unlikely source: the man who kidnapped her. But, he has his own secrets. And, when their partnership turns to love, the two must face constant danger to endure. But will they ever be free?

To gain her fortune, Shera's stepmother and stepsister drug and sell her to a Moroccan sultan for his harem. Shera's aid from her decided-for-her fate comes in the form of John, the man who kidnapped her and is responsible for taking her to her new home.

Shera is pretty straight forward character, an even balance to the mystery surrounding John. The mystery isn't one for long, and the alliance formed between the main characters grows into friendship then love. Then it's finding, and keeping, their freedom when John's mission is complete.

This reminded me of Cinderella. It shared some of the same themes: jealousy, greed, deception. Yet Ms. Hachtel made it her own by setting it someplace exotic and giving the "prince" an air of mystery and intrigue. It propelled the story to a depth I wasn't expecting, and found myself engrossed and engaged.

A beautiful fast paced tale that's a keeper and a re-read.
