The sizzling heat doesn’t always stay in summer. . .

Connie Reyes and Jonathan Pierce only discovered how different they were after a magical summer on the Jersey Shore. She was ambitious and practical; he was artistic and rebellious. Their parting was heartrending, and the intervening years have only made a reunion less and less possible.

Now, Jonathan is back in Sea Kiss, having made a fortune in tech. He has everything money can buy, but his bed is empty and his heart is hollow. He’s never stopped thinking about Connie, and he’ll do anything to show her the man he’s become. . .

So, there's that saying "opposites attract" that is demonstrated in real life and in fiction. Rich/poor. Fire/ice. Popular/nerdy. Free spirit/disciplined. Whatever pairing I have come across, whether in real life or in fiction, I have found that those differences are what makes for strong couples. It's not power play. It's not submission. It's balance. Yin and yang. A complemented pairing that works.

Connie and Jonathan have been different since before now. She refused to be like her mother so she's overly cautious, suspicious even. It makes for a great lawyer mindset but not so for a relationship one. He refused to live by his dad's rules so he rebelled and made his own mark on the world. His young man rebellion brought him acclaim unimaginable but it's also keeping him from the one woman he wants. She's still the woman he longs for, but she doesn't see a man worth giving a second chance to because he walked away all those years ago.

Time and experience have a way of changing people, and it was very obvious that Jonathan was not the same person now as he was then. It was just hard and slightly frustrating to watch Connie see it and doubt it. There were way too many moments when I was torn between wanting to throw something at her because she was that frustrating, and wanting to give her a hug because I wanted her to see the amazing man standing in front of her.

Settling the past and making peace with it were essential for them to have a fighting chance for forever. When they did, it was definitely time for their future to begin. Ms. Pineiro did a lovely job wrapping up the loose ends so they could move forward. For Connie and Jonathan, it was a long time coming and their second chance was worth waiting for.
