A zero fraternization policy. A sexy new boss. And a girl who's hell-bent on breaking the rules.

Breezy:
Derrick made a big mistake when he told me he doesn’t date employees. It’s like he just placed a giant piece of chocolate cake in front of me and told me not to touch it. What else does he expect me to do?

You think you can resist me, Derrick? Challenge accepted.

Derrick:
I knew she was trouble. The minute I met her, I could tell she was a hurricane. Sweeping in and causing chaos wherever she goes. But, she has no idea who she's dealing with.

You think this is a game, Breezy? Bring it on.

I’ve never met a character like Breezy, though I have met plenty of characters like Derrick. I’ve never a family quite like Breezy’s, though I’m well acquainted with the lack of family like Derrick has. I’ve never read a character’s dialogue and thought, “Oh my gosh, I know people like her!” Until I read Breezy’s, thought I’ve met plenty of characters who struggle with words like Derrick.

Point of all that is...

This is one amazing story.

Breezy is non-stop motion, emotion, conversation, gestures, everything. She’s engaging, personable, light, spontaneous. She is everything Derrick is not and is, therefore, his perfect compliment.

There is plenty of attraction between them. It simmers near boiling even during Breezy’s misguided attempt to pull Derrick in sooner than he was ready to. But it was worth the attempt because it forced the issue of that attraction to center stage. The ball was in Derrick’s court because Breezy had already made her intentions clear. He could either give in and hang on for the ride, or turn away and wonder what could have been.

The reason for Derrick’s hesitation is made perfectly, both in backstory and in conversation with Breezy. But it’s a crap excuse, to be honest, because Breezy isn’t his ex. It was almost too late before he came to his senses about that too. Almost.

For all of the sexual tension between Derrick and Breezy, Ms. Rae managed to keep all of what it eventually led to up to to the reader’s imagination.

I was not expecting that.
But it fitted the story so well that I didn’t miss those scenes at all.

This story moves fast but the characters have layers. Except Breezy. She’s definitely in your face, who you see is who you get. It was amusing to see her persona peel away Derrick’s layers then strengthen the man she knew laid behind he hurt and guardedness.

So... Yes. Oh. Em. Gee. What did I just read?!
I’m pretty sure I know and I can’t wait to read something else by Ms. Rae.
