The first in a wickedly seductive new Scottish historical romance series from New York Times bestselling author Suzanne Enoch!

HAPPILY-EVER-AFTER
London socialite Amelia-Rose Baxter is nobody’s fool. Her parents may want her to catch a title, but she will never change who she is for the promise of marriage. Her husband will be a man who can appreciate her sharp mind as well as her body. A sophisticated man who loves life in London. A man who considers her his equal—and won’t try to tame her wild heart...

IN THE HIGHLANDS
Rough, rugged Highlander Niall MacTaggert and his brothers know the rules: the eldest must marry or lose the ancestral estate, period. But Niall’s eldest brother just isn’t interested in the lady his mother selected. Is it because Amelia-Rose is just too. . . Free-spirited? Yes. Brazen? Aye. Surely Niall can find a way to soften up the whip-smart lass and make her the perfect match for his brother for the sake of the family.

JUST GOT A WHOLE LOT HOTTER.
Instead it’s Niall who tempts Amelia-Rose, despite her reservations about barbarian Highlanders. Niall finds the lass nigh irresistible as well, but he won’t make the mistake his father did in marrying an Englishwoman who doesn’t like the Highlands. Does he have what it takes to win her heart? There is only one way to find out...

For all his charm, wildness, and that accent (can you hear his voice while you read this story?), Niall is not my favorite character. Amelia-Rose is. She's renewed my interest in historical romances which, for so long, were my go-to when I was in a reading funk or in need of a break from whatever genre I was engrossed in.

I enjoy a bluestocking lead but there is something to be said for a female lead who is not only strong-minded and sharp but enjoys society as a daughter born into it. Dancing, dinner, friends. Amelia-Rose was in her element both on and off the dance floor.

Niall was a perfect compliment for Amelia-Rose. I don't just mean matching her physically. By description, both were stunning. I mean in demeanor, personality, heart. He wasn't meant to be Amelia-Rose's husband, his oldest brother was, but when he's left to do damage control after the mess his brother made the tides turned and an uneasy acquaintance morphed into friendship and love.

I've missed this type of reading, when the angst is non-existent, the humor and lightheartedness are rampant, and misconceptions are laid to rest. It paves the way for love to really take hold and flourish on its own. Niall and Amelia-Rose's relationship was so well-developed. It moved in its own time, really growing as they got to know one another until the only suitable answer was to be released from the original contract and planning a future that they were in control of.

This is a beautiful beginning for this series about Highland brothers and the English women they need to marry. It'll be interesting to see how the others fare, especially the oldest who, for me, will have to make up some ground for his atrocious behavior in this story. Putting him aside, this was what my restless reader soul needed. It's a long book, so find a comfortable place to read, but it's definitely worth the time and the length.
